I have been sitting in the Singhania Law Firm for the past hour.
I asked Ahaan Bhai to find Advait’s phone number so that I could call him and tell him to cancel this engagement.
“Bhai, aaj hi dhundva loge number?” I asked him.
(Bro, will you find the number today itself?)
“Yes, Kiara, we had a case about him around eight months back, so we must have his number at least. Calm down; I will give it to you when we find it,” He replied.
Oh, that damn case, let's just not think about it, Kiara, I thought as I put my thoughts aside.
“So, knowing that Dad has called me here, do I need to work in his firm?” I asked, feeling uncertain.
“Yeah, we have registered you in the bar council, you can work here. I would like to have you as one of our lawyers,” he responded.
“But I don’t want to work here. I don’t want to work in his firm,” I insisted.
“Kiara, I know you want to build your law firm, but a law firm can't be built in a day. You can work here, gain experience, be a great lawyer, and then open your own law firm.” He said.
“Yeah, whatever; I have heard that multiple times now,” I said while standing up from the chair.
Know that you’re not getting his number, then I should leave. Message me when you find it,” I added.
“Okay,” he replied as I left his cabin and went straight to the parking lot.
I sat in my car, and just as I was about to drive off, I saw that I had received a message from Ananya.
When I opened it, the message read, “Off hai aaj mera, ghar aaja.”
(I have an off today, come home.)
“Aa rahi hu,” I replied and drove off to her house.
(Coming)
☆
Soon, I arrived at her house.
Being a top actress, it was more of a penthouse than a house.
I entered and was greeted by her mother.
“Hello, Aunty,” I said while smiling towards her.
She is one of the sweetest souls I have met. And she is probably the funniest lady I have ever encountered.
“Hello, Kiara! How are you?” She asked while smiling towards me.
“I’m good, Aunty. How about you?” I asked her as I hugged her.
“I’m also fine, beta. Bas, ab ek baar Ananya ki shaadi ho jaye toh main bhi great ho jaungi,” She said while looking at Ananya who was coming downstairs.
(Now, I just want Ananya to get married, so that I can also be great)
“Shaadi ke alawa kuch kyun nahi yaad aata aapko, Mumma?” Ananya said, probably tired from her battering about her marriage.
(Why can’t you think anything besides my wedding mom?)
“Kiara beta, isse samjha. Jaldi Shadi karegi tabhi toh marne se pehle pota ya poti dekh ke chain se jaungi,” her mother said.
(Kiara, tell her, that if she gets married then only I can see my grandson or granddaughter and then die peacefully)
“Yaar mummy, phir wahi baat. Kar lungi shadi, aap kaam ki tension lo!” Ananya replied.
“What is this behaviour, Ananya? Jiju kaha hai mera?” I asked her while teasing her and laughing.
“Why are you laughing, nothing is funny here.” She said.
“Come, let's go to my room; I wanted to talk to you,”, She said while looking at me with a weird expression.
“Han han, jao tum dono. Meri bhi kitty party ka time ho gaya hai. Bye kiddos!” her mother said while putting on expensive sunglasses.
(Yeah, yeah, go, both of you. Anyway It's time for my kitty party.)
“Aunty, mast hain bilkul,” I said while looking at her leaving and laughing.
(You are great)
“Unka chora, yeh bata sharam aa rahi hai ya bech gayi?” Ananya teased.
(Leave her, tell me are you ashamed or you sold it away?)
“What did I do?” I asked her, but out of nowhere, she started throwing cushions at me.
“Mujhse jhoot bolegi tu. Mera jija dhoond liya tune aur mujhe bataya bhi nahi?” she shot back while throwing the cushions.
(You are lying to me. You found my brother-in-law, and you didn't even tell me?)
“Jija?! Konsa jija? Kahan se mil gaya mujhe tera jija?” I asked her, confused, trying to save myself from the cushions she was still throwing at me.
(Brother-in-law?! What Brother-in-law? Where did I find your Brother-in-law?)
“I am talking about Advait,” she clarified while she threw the last cushion on me.
All the cushions were now on the floor.
The living room, which looked perfect just some minutes back, was now looking like a war was held there.
Of course, it is a war of cushions.
“He is not your jijaji!” I argued.
“Ritika Aunty called me. She was saying that you are angry and that I should convince you of this marriage,” Ananya said while ignoring my statement of Advait not being her Brother-in-law.
“You are my friend, not hers, so let’s not talk about it,” I replied as I sat on the sofa
“I always knew you would get married to him,” She said while sitting next to me.
“Of course! All this is happening because of your mouth. Can’t you ever say anything good?” I complained.
“You should be happy. You like him, and now you will get engaged to him,” She said.
“I don’t like him and I don’t want to get engaged to him! I will do anything to avoid that,” I protested.
“Par tu mere saath aise kaise kar sakti hai?” Ananya asked me while trying to act like she was so sad because of me.
(But how can you do this to me?)
“Ab kya kar diya maine?” I asked her.
(Now what did I do?)
“You never told me you were dating Advait,” she said while pestering a sad expression on her face.
“He is not my boyfriend! I just found out about this alliance yesterday. Don't make any false assumptions in your head!” I exclaimed.
“So, you could have told me yesterday?” She pushed.
“Sorry, I was very tired,” I admitted.
“Leave it,” She said, still having a sad expression on her face.
“So, what’s the plan? What are we doing?” I asked, changing the topic.
“We can watch a movie and then maybe order something,” She suggested.
“Good idea—” I was interrupted as my phone buzzed.
It was a message from Advait Bhai. I opened it and saw a number.
He finally found Advait's number!
“I think we can do something better than watching a movie,” Ananya said, giggling while looking at my phone.
“I am going to call him, but not in front of you,” I replied while looking at her face which was now glowing.
“Why? I’m not going to say anything! Please, he is going to be my best friend’s husband and my brother-in-law!” She said with puppy eyes.
“He is not going to be my or your anything,” I countered.
“We will see about that. For now, just call,” She encouraged.
“Fine,” I said, dialling the number. It rang but then went to voicemail.
I wondered if calling again would help.
I tapped the call button again, and it rang.
And rang.
And—voicemail again.
Frustration built within me.
“Maybe he’s just busy; you know how much these people have to work. I think we could call him later. Until then, let’s just watch a movie,” Ananya suggested, trying to calm me down.
“Yeah, maybe,” I replied, trying to agree with her but knowing very well that he was ignoring me.
If he won’t answer his phone, I’ll just go find him myself. And when I do, he is not going to like it.
☆

I leaned back in my chair, eyes skimming over the endless reports spread across my desk.
The dim light of my office cast sharp shadows on the walls, and the faint hum of the city below barely registered in my ears.
Work demanded my focus.
Yet, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.
I didn’t even have to check.
I already knew who it was.
A smirk tugged at my lips.
Slowly, deliberately, I reached for the phone, glancing at the screen.
Unknown Number.
Cute.
She thought she was being smart, as if I wouldn’t recognize it was her.
The call rang out. I didn’t answer.
A few seconds later, it rang again.
I chuckled under my breath, tapping my fingers against the desk.
Persistent little thing, isn’t she?
I could practically picture her—pacing, fuming, her face twisted in frustration.
The thought alone was to enter an entertaining
She called again.
I let my thumb hover over the answer button… then smirked and pressed decline.
I chuckled to myself, Oh, sweetheart, you make this too easy.
